Rusty Spicer has “been working with a formula using silicone (your basic household window calking) for the past 20 years. About two years ago, I went into my art studio, depressed because after 20 years I still did not have my artist signature, something that would make my art different from everyone else’s. I started working with some black silicone and when I went to clean the tool that I was using there was this scrape of paper on my workbench that was left over from another project, so I just used that piece of paper to wipe the tool clean. When I looked at the paper, the silicone had done something I had never seen it do before. I started playing with more paper and more silicone, and I knew right then and there that I had found my “look”, my eureka moment had happened! The work that you see was done after that ‘eureka moment’.”
